What is Yellow Fever?
A Preventable Illness
Yellow fever is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes, primarily the Aedes aegypti species. It's characterized by symptoms like fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, nausea, and vomiting. In severe cases, it can lead to jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), liver and kidney failure, and even death.
The virus primarily occurs in tropical and subtropical areas of Africa and South America. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent yellow fever, and it's often required for travelers to endemic regions.
Some of the most popular countries where yellow fever vaccination is either recommended or required include:
1. Brazil: Yellow fever vaccination is recommended for travelers visiting certain areas, especially the Amazon region.
2. Nigeria: Yellow fever vaccination is required for entry into Nigeria, and proof of vaccination is often requested at the point of entry.
